Editor’s Note
Well, it’s been a long time coming but it’s finally launched. Coinciding with the release of GPT-5.4 and the bombshell report from Anthropic around AI adoption. There have been so many new things that it’s nearly impossible to keep track. Just taking a day off sometimes means you miss all the fun.

Now, this is the very first issue so there will be some teething and more features ot add later on. I am very open to feedback about what you think makes a newsletter good.

Without further ado, the news, perspective, and a prompt to try.

OpenAI Lands Pentagon Deal After Anthropic Gets Blacklisted

Context

The Trump administration has blacklisted AI company Anthropic as a national security supply chain risk, forcing U.S. government agencies and contractors to stop using its models. Hours later, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that OpenAI reached an agreement with the Pentagon to deploy its models inside the Department of Defense’s classified network. Anthropic had previously been integrated with the DoD, but negotiations collapsed over disagreements around military use of AI.

What You Need to Know

• The Pentagon labeled Anthropic a national security supply chain risk, a designation normally used for foreign adversaries.

• President Trump ordered all federal agencies to immediately stop using Anthropic technology.

• OpenAI struck a deal with the DoD within hours, allowing its models to run on classified networks.

• OpenAI says its agreement includes limits on domestic mass surveillance and autonomous weapons.

• Anthropic says it is “deeply saddened” and plans to challenge the decision in court.

Why This Matters

This signals that frontier AI is now treated as strategic infrastructure and not just software.
Washington just showed it is willing to pick winners and losers in the AI race overnight.
The labs that integrate with defense will gain data, funding, and influence that civilian competitors simply cannot match.

How to Capitalise Off This

Start mapping your AI dependencies now. If your stack relies on a single model provider, you are exposed to political and regulatory risk overnight.

Build a multi-model architecture so your systems can swap providers without breaking workflows.

And if you operate in regulated sectors, begin exploring sovereign or government-aligned AI deployments, because procurement alignment is quickly becoming a competitive advantage

OpenAI Raises $110B as Big Tech Bets on the AI Superpower

Context

OpenAI has announced a $110 billion funding round, the largest private tech financing in history. Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank are leading the investment, pushing OpenAI’s valuation to $730 billion pre-money. The raise comes as the company accelerates its race for compute, infrastructure, and enterprise dominance while competition from Google and Anthropic intensifies.

What You Need to Know

• OpenAI raised $110B, more than double its previous record-breaking round last year.

• Amazon ($50B), Nvidia ($30B), and SoftBank ($30B) are the primary investors.

• The deal values OpenAI at $730B pre-money, making it one of the most valuable private companies in history.

• Amazon will become the exclusive third-party cloud distributor for OpenAI’s enterprise platform Frontier.

• OpenAI plans massive infrastructure expansion with $600B in compute spending by 2030.

Why This Matters

AI is turning into a capital war, not just a research race.
The companies that control compute, GPUs, and cloud distribution will control the AI economy. This round signals that OpenAI is positioning itself less like a startup and more like a global infrastructure provider.

How to Capitalise Off This

Assume AI costs will drop for users but explode for infrastructure providers. Position your company to consume AI, not build foundation models.

Start negotiating multi-cloud AI access now because distribution power is consolidating around a handful of providers.

Most importantly, build proprietary data pipelines. Models are becoming commodities, but the data you feed them will define your competitive moat.

Block Cuts 40% of Staff and Blames AI

Context

Fintech company Block, the parent company of Square and Cash App, announced it will lay off more than 4,000 employees, roughly 40% of its workforce. CEO Jack Dorsey said the cuts reflect a new reality where AI tools allow much smaller teams to operate companies at scale. Investors reacted immediately, sending Block’s stock up more than 20% in premarket trading.

What You Need to Know

• Block is laying off 4,000+ employees, shrinking its workforce from about 10,000.

• CEO Jack Dorsey directly attributed the move to productivity gains from AI tools.

• Investors rewarded the decision. Block shares jumped more than 20% after the announcement.

• The company’s gross profit rose 24% year over year, strengthening the efficiency narrative.

• Unlike most companies announcing layoffs, Block openly tied job cuts to AI adoption.

Why This Matters

This is the first major public company openly saying AI lets it run with far fewer employees.
Markets are rewarding efficiency over headcount.
If the model works, expect other CEOs to quietly follow the same playbook.

How to Capitalise Off This

Audit every department and ask a brutal question. If this team started today with AI tools, how many people would you actually hire?

Invest in internal AI workflows that augment decision making, operations, and support, not just chatbots.

The companies that win will not simply automate tasks. They will redesign the entire organisation around AI-first productivity.
